Kent captain Charlotte Edwards scored an unbeaten century as the England women claimed a second series victory with a 59-run win over New Zealand.

After a rain delayed start England were inserted for the second one-day international of the series and posted 219 in the reduced 26-over game.

Once again Charlotte Edwards dominated with a fine batting display, racing to her sixth one-day international century off just 70 balls.

England dominated from the first ball of the innings as Laura Marsh posted a quick-fire 15 before Sarah Taylor went on to share a 98-run partnership with Edwards.

After stroking six boundaries on her way to 39 from 27 balls Taylor hit to Sara McGlashan at mid-off, leaving England on 125 for two.

Despite the stumping of Danielle Wyatt and Lydia Greenway being caught and bowled, Edwards continued to add the runs with the middle order, finding the boundary on 20 occasions.

As the tourists pushed for runs Kate Broadmore claimed the wickets of Jenny Gunn and Arran Brindle, leaving Heather Knight to face the last ball with Edwards who finished on 137 not out from 88 balls.

After losing two overs to rain during their innings England’s total was revised to 223.

Despite a solid 44-run partnership from Lucy Doolan and Katey Martin, the target was always a tough ask for the White Ferns as England took control form the seventh over when Brindle bowled Martin for 22.

The tourists continued to exert pressure, running out Suzie Bates and Anna Peterson as the hosts struggled to 95 for four. Sara McGlashan chipped a valiant 69 but as wickets fell at regular intervals the target slipped out of reach.

Anya Shrubsole was pick of the bowlers taking 3-28 which included the prized wicket of Satterthwaite when she returned for her second spell.

Marsh returned in the final over bowling Morna Nielsen and Lea Tahuhu as New Zealand collapsed to 164 all out.

Charlotte Edwards said: “We went out there with a mindset of Twenty20 cricket and it paid off. There were some great contributions from Sarah Taylor and Laura Marsh and it was great to contribute myself. I feel I’m in the form of my life.

“It’s a great wicket here so we went out and got stuck in and to get 219 was a fantastic effort. We knew that would always put New Zealand under pressure. We bowled and fielded well on a good pitch. It was difficult conditions in the wind and it was cold but the bowlers bowled well with Anya up front who came back well.

“I’m really pleased with how we performed in difficult conditions and to take another great series win, that’s what we came out here to do and we’ve achieved that today in style.

“We wanted to be unbeaten when we came out here and we’ll be looking to continue the same form on Monday.”

The final match of the series will be played at Bert Sutcliffe Oval, Lincoln on Monday.
